ZillyPlanet is built for children, so protecting children's privacy is a core part of how we design and operate our Service.

This Children's Privacy Notice explains how ZillyPlanet, Inc. ("ZillyPlanet," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, protects, retains, and deletes personal information from children.

This notice is intended to meet the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and Rule ("COPPA") in the United States and to provide parents, guardians, schools, and children with clear information about our privacy practices.

This notice should be read with our general Privacy Policy. School-managed accounts are covered by this notice and our School & District Privacy Notice. A school's written privacy agreement may provide added protections.

1. A Quick Note for Kids

ZillyPlanet is a place to learn, explore, practice math, and build new skills.

​

We only ask for information that helps ZillyPlanet work, personalize your learning, keep your account secure, and show your progress.

We do not sell your personal information.

​

We do not use your learning information to show you targeted ads.

​

You should never enter private information such as your home address, phone number, passwords, medical information, or other private details into a ZillyPlanet learning activity or AI conversation.

Your parent, guardian, or school may contact us if they have questions about your information.

ZillyPlanet is responsible for responding to parent and guardian questions about children's privacy practices.

​

Some technology providers process information on our behalf to help us operate ZillyPlanet. A current list of operators and service providers that collect or maintain children's personal information through the Service is available through our Child Data Operators and Service Providers List.

3. When This Notice Applies

​

This notice applies when ZillyPlanet collects personal information online from a child under 13.

​

Children may access ZillyPlanet in two primary ways.

​

Family-Managed Accounts

A parent or guardian may create or authorize a ZillyPlanet account for their child.

When parental consent is required under COPPA, ZillyPlanet provides the parent or guardian with notice and obtains verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from the child, apart from limited situations permitted by law.

School-Managed Accounts

A school, school district, charter school, private school, teacher acting with appropriate authority, or other educational organization may provide a student with access to ZillyPlanet.

In the educational context, a school may act on behalf of parents to authorize collection of children's personal information where permitted by law and where the information is used for the school-authorized educational purpose.

Information collected through school authorization is not used for unrelated commercial purposes.

4. Personal Information We May Collect From Children

The information collected depends on the type of account, age of the child, features used, and how the account was created.

Account Information

We may collect or maintain information such as:

• School-assigned or ZillyPlanet-generated student identifier

• Username

• Year of birth or age-related information

• Grade level

• School, classroom, or teacher information

• Parent or guardian account association

• Account authentication information

A school may choose to use a school-assigned or pseudonymous identifier instead of a student's full name where supported.

ZillyPlanet creates information as children participate in learning activities.

Information Entered by a Child

Some learning activities may allow a child to type or select a response.

We ask children not to enter unnecessary personal information into these areas.

ZillyPlanet is not designed to provide public posting, public profiles, or open communication between children and strangers.

Technical Information

ZillyPlanet may automatically collect limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and maintain the Service.

We do not use persistent identifiers collected from children to create advertising profiles.

5. Information We Do Not Ask Children to Provide for Core Learning

ZillyPlanet's core learning experience does not require a child to provide:

• Social Security number

• Social Insurance Number

• Home address

• Personal telephone number

• Government identification number

• Financial information

• Credit or debit card information

• Medical records

• Health insurance information

• Disability diagnosis

• Individualized Education Program documents

• Biometric identifiers

• Fingerprints

• Facial recognition information

• Voiceprints

• Precise geolocation

• Social-media account information

 

Children should not enter this information into learning responses, AI interactions, support forms, or other ZillyPlanet input areas.

Payment information for family subscriptions or purchases is provided by an adult and is handled through the applicable payment provider.

6. How We Use Children's Information

We use children's personal information to provide and operate ZillyPlanet.

Uses may include:

• Creating and maintaining a child's account

• Providing educational activities

• Personalizing learning experiences

• Matching content to grade level and learning progress

• Personalizing examples around selected interests

We limit the collection of children's personal information to information reasonably needed for the activity or Service being provided.

A child is not required to disclose more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in a ZillyPlanet activity.

 

7. Artificial Intelligence

ZillyPlanet uses artificial intelligence and automated technology to support personalized learning.

AI-supported features may help:

• Personalize educational examples

• Generate instructional content

• Provide hints

• Explain mathematical concepts

• Adapt learning activities

• Support learning pathways

• Evaluate educational content

Information processed by an AI-supported feature may include the educational activity, student response, applicable learning context, selected interests, or other limited information needed to provide the feature.

We work to limit personal information sent to AI service providers.

​

Third-party AI providers processing children's personal information on ZillyPlanet's behalf are not authorized to use that information for targeted advertising or for the provider's independent commercial purposes.

ZillyPlanet does not authorize third-party AI providers to use identifiable children's personal information to train publicly available or general-purpose AI models for their independent purposes.

 

AI-generated information may contain mistakes. ZillyPlanet uses educational, safety, technical, and quality controls designed to reduce inaccurate or inappropriate outputs.

Children should never use an AI input area to share private information that is not needed for the learning activity.

8. We Do Not Sell Children's Personal Information

ZillyPlanet does not sell children's personal information.

We do not exchange children's personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies for advertising or unrelated commercial purposes.

9. We Do Not Use Children's Information for Targeted Advertising

ZillyPlanet does not use children's personal information or learning activity to provide targeted advertising.

We do not build advertising profiles based on a child's:

• Academic performance

• Interests

• Learning progress

• Question responses

• Skills

• Grade

• AI interactions

• Mission activity

• Behavior within ZillyPlanet

 

The child learning experience does not contain targeted advertising.

10. When Children's Information May Be Shared

ZillyPlanet does not publicly share children's personal information.

Children's information may be disclosed in limited circumstances.

Parents and Guardians

An authorized parent or guardian may receive information about their child's account, progress, activity, and learning experience.

For school-managed accounts, authorized teachers, administrators, and school personnel may receive information required to provide and manage the educational experience.

Service Providers

ZillyPlanet may use service providers for functions such as:

Service providers receiving children's personal information may process it only for the services they provide to ZillyPlanet and subject to applicable contractual, privacy, and security requirements.

11. Children Cannot Make Personal Information Public Through ZillyPlanet

ZillyPlanet is not designed as a public social network.

Children are not provided with public profiles that expose their learning activity to the public.

ZillyPlanet does not provide open student-to-student messaging with unknown users.

​

Learning responses, progress information, and educational activity are not intentionally published publicly.

12. Parental Consent

​

When COPPA requires parental consent for a family-managed account, ZillyPlanet provides a direct notice to the parent or guardian before collecting personal information from the child.

The notice explains:

• What information we plan to collect

• Why we collect it

• How it will be used

• Whether it will be disclosed

• The parent's privacy rights

• How the parent can provide consent

• How the parent can withdraw consent

 

ZillyPlanet uses a method reasonably designed to verify that the person providing consent is the child's parent or legal guardian.

If consent is not provided within a reasonable period, information collected solely for the purpose of requesting parental consent will be deleted as required by COPPA.

​

A parent may withdraw consent later and request that ZillyPlanet stop collecting personal information from the child.

​

Withdrawal may require closure or limitation of the child's account when the information is needed to provide the Service.

13. School Authorization

​

A school may authorize use of ZillyPlanet on behalf of parents in circumstances permitted under COPPA and other applicable laws.

Before relying on school authorization, ZillyPlanet provides the school with information about:

• How the information is used

• Disclosure practices

• Service providers

• Security

• Retention

• Deletion

• Parent and school rights

 

School authorization applies only to information collected for the school-authorized educational purpose.

ZillyPlanet does not rely on school authorization to use a child's information for targeted advertising or another unrelated commercial purpose.

A school cannot be required to take responsibility for ZillyPlanet's own COPPA obligations.

14. Parent and Guardian Rights

​

Parents and legal guardians have rights concerning personal information ZillyPlanet has collected from their children.

A parent or guardian may request to:

• Learn what categories of personal information ZillyPlanet has collected from their child

• Review personal information collected from their child

• Correct inaccurate account information

• Request deletion of their child's personal information

• Refuse further collection or use of their child's personal information

• Withdraw previously provided consent

• Close a family-managed child's account

 

We may take reasonable steps to verify that a person making a request is authorized to act for the child.

For a school-managed account, the parent may be directed to the child's school when the school controls the applicable education record. ZillyPlanet will work with the school to process authorized requests.

15. Data Retention

​

ZillyPlanet retains children's personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the specific purpose for which the information was collected.

We do not retain children's personal information indefinitely simply in case it may become useful later.

Retention periods may vary based on:

• Whether the account is family-managed or school-managed

• The type of information

• The educational service being provided

• Account status

• School contractual requirements

• Security requirements

• Applicable legal obligations

 

ZillyPlanet maintains a written data retention and deletion policy for children's personal information.

When personal information is no longer reasonably needed for its documented purpose, it is deleted or de-identified using reasonable measures designed to protect it against unauthorized access or use.

​

Backup copies may remain for a limited period within backup and disaster-recovery systems before they are overwritten or deleted through normal system processes.

School-managed Student Data may be subject to shorter or different retention periods stated in the applicable school agreement.

16. Closing a Child's Account

​

A parent or guardian may request closure of a family-managed child account.

​

When an account is closed, ZillyPlanet will delete or de-identify the child's personal information according to our retention policy and applicable legal requirements.

For school-managed accounts, account closure and deletion may be controlled by the school or applicable school agreement.

ZillyPlanet does not retain a former child's identifiable learning information for targeted advertising or unrelated marketing.

17. Security

​

ZillyPlanet maintains a written information-security program addressing children's personal information.

Our security practices include administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect children's information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

ZillyPlanet may create information that has been de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual child.

Where permitted by law and applicable agreements, de-identified or aggregated information may be used for purposes such as:

ZillyPlanet maintains measures designed to prevent properly de-identified child information from being associated again with an identifiable child.

We may update this Children's Privacy Notice when ZillyPlanet, our technology, or applicable legal requirements change.

If a change materially affects how we collect, use, or disclose personal information in a way that requires new parental consent, we will provide a new direct notice and obtain consent before applying that change to a child's personal information.
